Definition
Cystic nephroma, or multilocular renal cyst, is a very rare vascularized multilocular cystic lesion whose imaging appearance is not different from that of certain cystic cancers.
Ultrasound
Renal tumor composed of multiple cystic spaces separated by thick, vascularized septa.
CT
Contrast-enhanced CT:
Renal tumor composed of multiple cystic spaces separated by thick septa enhancing after injection.
When small in size, the multiple septa it contains, delimiting small cystic loculi, may mask its fluid nature on ultrasound and CT.
MRI
Marked hyperintensity associated with hypointense septal images on T2-weighted images suggesting the cystic (but not necessarily benign) nature of the tumor.
