Definition

Displacement of a vertebra relative to the underlying vertebra.
Most commonly anterior: anterolisthesis.
Other forms: retrolisthesis, laterolisthesis.
Causes: degenerative, spondylolysis, congenital, traumatic, tumoral, infection of the anterior column

Radiography

Displacement of a vertebral body relative to the underlying body.
Spondylolysis is best seen on the oblique (3/4) view ("Scotty dog" collar defect).
In degenerative spondylolisthesis, posterior facet degenerative changes are of particular importance

MRI

Reference examination for the workup of spinal canal stenosis

Classification

Grade 1: 0 to 25% slippage of the vertebral body relative to the underlying body.
Grade 2: 26 to 50% slippage.
Grade 3: 51 to 75% slippage.
Grade 4: greater than 75% slippage
