Definition
Strangulation of an extremity - most often a finger or toe, but also the penis or clitoris - by a constricting band (hair or textile fiber), causing ischemia that may progress to necrosis and amputation
Clinical features
Inflammatory edema related to chronic strangulation
Burying of the band due to edema
Radiography
Soft tissue swelling
Strangulation visible indirectly on soft tissues
No osseous abnormality
Management
Mechanical or surgical removal of the constricting band
