Definition
Gram-negative bacillus, responsible for nosocomial pneumonia, particularly in aplastic patients.
Radiography
In cases of pneumonia in aplastic patients, the chest radiograph may be normal, making the diagnosis difficult to distinguish from sepsis; or it may be nonspecific, related to hemodynamic and/or lesional alveolar edema and/or alveolar hemorrhage.
CT
In the case of non-bacteremic involvement, the lesions present as bronchopneumonia with multifocal, bilateral, segmental parenchymal opacities predominating in the lower lobes. Nodular and reticular opacities may be observed.
Abscess formation is a frequent occurrence, even at an early stage of pneumonia.
Pleural effusion is common but usually of small volume, with rare progression to empyema. In some cases, these lesions may progress to diffuse, bilateral extension of the parenchymal involvement.
In the case of hematogenous pneumonia, the findings consist of multifocal nodular formations, sometimes with confluence.
