Definition
Infection with varicella-zoster virus, of the herpesvirus family.
Rare in children and occurs more readily in adults, sometimes with severe forms
Clinical features
Skin rash, chest pain, fever, dyspnea
CT
Patchy ground-glass opacities, centrilobular micronodules and nodules sometimes branching, and bronchial wall thickening
Other, rarer findings:
- Subsegmental lobular consolidation
- Bilateral pleural effusions
Differential diagnosis
- Sarcoidosis
- Tuberculous or carcinomatous miliary disease
- Other viral infections
