Definition
Rare condition.
Presence of gas-filled cysts in the bowel wall.
Predilection for the small bowel and colon but may involve the entire gastrointestinal tract.
Male predominance.
Median age at diagnosis 50 years.
Clinical features
Asymptomatic.
Marked discrepancy between the imaging findings of pneumoperitoneum and pneumatosis and the complete absence of abdominal pain.
Radiography
Plain film: pathognomonic "cluster of grapes" gas bubbles
CT
Subserosal pneumatosis in cases of colonic involvement, associated with pneumoperitoneum +/- retropneumoperitoneum
