Definition
Ring of pancreatic tissue encircling the second portion of the duodenum.
Pathophysiology: abnormal fusion and rotation of the ventral and dorsal buds, with either a single ventral bud or a bifid ventral bud.
Clinical features
Asymptomatic in adults.
Epigastric pain, reflux in children.
Radiography
Duodenal contrast study: eccentric extrinsic stenosis.
Wirsung ductography: the ventral duct forms a ring around the duodenum communicating with the duct of Wirsung, more rarely with the duct of Santorini
CT
Island of normal pancreatic parenchyma to the right of the duodenum.
Thickening of the pancreatic head.
Thin-slab MIP for analysis of the pancreatic ducts.
