Definition

Osteochondrosis of the tibial tuberosity secondary to repeated microtrauma

Radiography

- Soft tissue swelling overlying the tibial tuberosity
- Blurring of the distal patellar tendon
- Increased density of the Hoffa fat pad
- Fissuring, fragmentation, or avulsion of the tibial tuberosity ossification center

MRI

- T1 hypointensity - T2 hyperintensity of the ossification center
- Signal abnormalities of the underlying tibial cancellous bone
- Edema of the distal patellar tendon, of the overlying subcutaneous soft tissues, and underlying bursitis
