Definition

Non-Hodgkin malignant lymphoma (NHL) is defined as a malignant proliferation arising from lymphocytes and originating in the various lymphoid structures of the human body. Orbital involvement by NHL is relatively rare and difficult to diagnose.
NHL accounts for 5 to 10% of orbital tumors.

Clinical features

Orbital involvement by NHL frequently occurs in elderly patients around 60 years of age.
Variable clinical manifestations:
- conjunctival or orbital mass
- exophthalmos
- binocular diplopia
- chemosis
- conjunctival hyperemia
- ptosis
- ectropion

CT

Fairly homogeneous soft tissue mass with moderate enhancement after contrast administration

MRI

Orbital protocol:
- Axial and coronal slices
- T1, T2, and T1 FatSat weighting after gadolinium injection

Management

The examination for definitive diagnosis remains biopsy with pathologic examination, more or less accompanied by immunohistochemical or even genetic studies.

Differential diagnosis

inflammatory pseudotumor
