Definition

Kommerell diverticulum is one of the aortic arch anomalies and corresponds to the dilated origin of a vessel arising from the aortic arch:

  • aberrant right subclavian artery in a left-sided aortic arch,
  • or aberrant right vertebral artery (lusoria).

Clinical features

Usually asymptomatic.

Possible esophageal and/or tracheal compression.

CT

Reference examination: contrast-enhanced arterial phase aortic CT angiography.

Allows diagnosis of the dilated origin of the aberrant vessel, and follow-up of its course.

Assessment for other associated vascular anomalies.
