Definition
Two entities are distinguished:
Objective patellar instability (OPI), defined by the presence of:
- at least one prior episode of true patellar dislocation
- and at least one anatomic abnormality among: trochlear dysplasia, patella alta, patellar tilt, abnormal TT-TG distance
Potential patellar instability (PPI), defined by:
- pain or subjective patellar instability without true dislocation
- and at least one anatomic abnormality as described in OPI, generally mild
