Definition
Rounded intrarenal cavity with a wall communicating with a calyx or, exceptionally, the renal pelvis through a thin channel.
Congenital and rare.
Most often single and located at the upper pole (70%).
May be complicated by infection or calculus formation due to urinary stasis.
Clinical features
Asymptomatic.
Radiography
Delayed opacification on IVU.
Ultrasound
Fluid-filled image at the margin of the renal sinus.
Differential diagnosis
Acquired cortical or parapelvic cyst, which may be communicating.
