Classification
Stage I
The FIGO classification remains based on clinical examination; nodal involvement is to be specified separately.
Cancer strictly confined to the cervix
Stage IA:
Invasive cancer identified only microscopically, with stromal invasion: maximum depth of 5 mm, maximum width of 7 mm
IA1
depth ≤ 3 mm, width ≤ 7 mm
IA2
3 mm < depth ≤ 5 mm and width ≤ 7 mm
Stage IB:
Clinically visible cancer confined to the cervix or microscopic cancer larger than IA
IB1
T ≤ 4 cm
IB2
T > 4 cm
Stage II
Cancer extending beyond the cervix but not reaching the pelvic wall or the lower third of the vagina
Stage IIA:
extending to the upper two-thirds of the vagina
IIA1
Size T ≤ 4 cm
IIA2
Size T > 4 cm
Stage IIB:
(proximal) parametrial involvement
Stage III
Cancer extending to the pelvic wall and/or the lower third of the vagina (including hydronephrosis)
Stage IIIA:
vaginal involvement up to the lower third
Stage IIIB:
fixation to the pelvic wall (or hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney)
Stage IV
Cancer extending beyond the true pelvis or involving the bladder and/or rectal mucosa
Stage IVA
adjacent organ
Stage IVB
distant, including para-aortic lymph nodes
