Definition
Normal variant defined by dilatation of the cistern of the velum interpositum
MRI
Cystic image located between the atria of the lateral ventricles, below the foramina of Monro, below the columns of the fornix, and above the choroid roof of the 3rd ventricle.
On axial images, triangular shape with anterior apex, >1 cm. The anterior extension never exceeds the foramina of Monro
On coronal images, the columns of the fornix are displaced and splayed
