Definition
Malignant ovarian tumors arise in more than 95% of cases from the surface epithelium of the ovary: these are epithelial tumors.
Unlike benign epithelial tumors, which are most often unilateral, they are bilateral in two-thirds of cases.
Classically detected at a late stage, III or IV, in two-thirds of cases.
MRI
MRI evaluation of a bladder tumor requires good technique, with the bladder in a semi-full state, including:
- Axial and sagittal T2 slices
- Axial T1 and T1 FatSat slices
- Axial diffusion slices B0 and B1000
- Isotropic 3D dynamic contrast-enhanced acquisition (temporal resolution 15s)
- Axial T1 FatSat Gado slices
Management
Depending on the stage, treatment consists of laparotomy with total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, omentectomy, +/- lymph node dissection, +/- resection of disseminated lesions, +/- chemotherapy.
