Definition

The most common long-term complication of prosthetic joint replacement, corresponding to loosening of a prosthetic component relative to the bone, with the appearance of a radiolucent line at the bone-cement or bone-implant interface

Radiography

- Radiolucent line >2 mm at the bone-prosthesis or bone-cement interface

- Progression of a radiolucent line on follow-up radiographs

- Loosening of the prosthesis or change in the radiolucent line on stress radiographs
