Definition

Secondary to portal hypertension, they predominate in the lower third of the esophagus.

CT

Irregularities of the lower esophageal wall with nodular intramural, submucosal enhancement following contrast administration.

These varices are better visualized on the portal venous phase or delayed phase.

Differential diagnosis

- Rendu-Osler disease

- Lymph nodes
