Definition
Urinoma: presence of retroperitoneal, perirenal, and sinus urine.
Urinoma results from acute urinary stasis with a sudden rise in urinary tract pressure leading to fornix rupture.
- endoluminal cause: calculus
- parietal cause: tumor, trauma
- extrinsic cause: tumor, ureteropelvic junction syndrome
Clinical features
Acute unilateral flank pain generally suggestive of renal colic, abruptly relieved
Ultrasound
CT
Extravasation of contrast material
Asymmetric perirenal stranding
Irregularity of the calyces
Spiderweb sign: visualization of perirenal septa
Hydronephrosis and perirenal fluid collections (crescent sign, decreased cortical thickness overlying the dilated calyces)
Calculus/obstruction of the urinary tract
Fornix rupture, urinoma
