Definition

Malpositioning of the right internal jugular central venous catheter
Dissection of the subpleural/extrapleural fat space and diffusion of contrast material into this space

Clinical features

ineffective infusions

CT

-Central venous catheter traversing the internal jugular vein
-Effusion within the subpleural fat space (leakage of infusions into this space)
-Opacification of this subpleural effusion (diffusion of contrast material) if contrast material is injected through this central venous catheter, no washout at different injection phases

Management

Removal of the central venous catheter
