Definition
Form of extra-articular growth-related osteochondrosis affecting the patellar tendon enthesis
Most commonly affects boys aged 10 to 14 years (generally before puberty) in the setting of intense sports activity
Clinical features
Mechanical anterior knee pain with patellar swelling
Painful palpation of the patellar apex
Radiography
Deformity of the patellar apex with a remodeled appearance
Proximal traction enthesopathy of the patellar tendon with +/- bone fragmentation
Ultrasound
+/- Proximal patellar tendon hyperemia if inflammatory
Management
Favorable outcome after a few months of rest from sports (4 to 8 weeks)

Fracture
Bipartite patella
Osgood-Schlatter disease
Patellar tendinopathy
