Definition
Marrow replacement by fibrous tissue, associated with extramedullary hematopoiesis, splenomegaly, anemia, and blood count abnormalities (granulocytes, platelets)
MRI
T1 hypointense and T2 hypointense bone marrow
On STIR, the marrow is only very slightly more intense than muscle
Nuclear medicine
Diffuse uptake in affected areas, particularly at the ends of long bones
Differential diagnosis
Leukemia
Lymphoma
Mastocytosis
Osteoblastic metastasis
Fluoride intoxication
Osteopetrosis
