Definition

Non-encapsulated mass of adipose tissue located in the interatrial septum, in continuity with epicardial adipose tissue.
HLIAS = Lipomatous Hypertrophy of the Interatrial Septum

Clinical features

Rare
Most often affects patients > 60 years
1/3 Asymptomatic
1/3 Conduction disturbances or heart failure
1/3 Death from major arrhythmia or end-stage heart failure

MRI

HLIAS: Interatrial septum with fat signal, thickened > 2cm, sparing the fossa ovalis, with an "hourglass" or "dumbbell" appearance
