Definition
Due to the development in humans of the larva of the dog tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus
CT
Uncomplicated hydatid cyst: located anywhere in the lung parenchyma.
It presents as a mass of fluid density with regular, more or less lobulated margins, ranging in size from 2 to 10 cm. This mass appears deformable and flattens against the diaphragm. Calcifications are exceptional in the thorax
MRI
A lesion with signal intensity identical to that of cerebrospinal fluid, namely hypointense on T1-weighted sequences and hyperintense on T2-weighted sequences.
Daughter cysts are generally iso-intense or slightly hypointense relative to the cystic content on T1.
The pericyst appears iso- or hyperintense on T1 and hypointense on T2 relative to the cyst content.
Management
Surgical treatment to avoid dissemination, a source of recurrence.
