Definition
Relatively rare tumor, accounting for 1-2.5% of intracranial tumors, with a predilection for the cerebellum
MRI
Hypo- or isointense on T1
Hyperintense on proton density or T2.
More rarely, foci of T1 hyperintensity reflecting lipid deposits, or intratumoral hemorrhage.
Intracystic tumor nodule with strong enhancement after Gadolinium injection. Dilated peritumoral vessels with T1 and T2 hypointensity.
In cases of Von Hippel-Lindau disease: spinal MRI to search for intramedullary or intra- and extramedullary lesions
Differential diagnosis
Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma
