Definition
Early complication of pancreaticoduodenectomy for cancer of the head of the Pancreas, often occurring at the end of the first postoperative week.
Clinical features
Amylase-rich collection draining through the surgical drain.
CT
Hypodense, sometimes heterogeneous formation (particularly in cases of superinfection or associated hemorrhage), often poorly defined and in contact with the pancreatic anastomosis
Management
Inhibition of pancreatic secretion with a somatostatin analog and drainage in contact with the fistula, either surgically or percutaneously.
