Definition
Rare benign tumor, developing predominantly in the metaphysis of long bones (femur and tibia +++)
Typical age at diagnosis: 10-30 years
Radiography
Metaphyseal involvement with possible epiphyseal or diaphyseal extension
Eccentric osteolytic lesion with a sclerotic rim (Lodwick Ia)
Elongated shape with long axis parallel to the diaphysis
Polylobulated margins, occasionally with cortical expansion
Presence of bony septa
Calcifications may be present
MRI
Nonspecific heterogeneous signal
Management
Conservative surgery: curettage and bone grafting
Differential diagnosis
- Chondroblastoma,
- Bone myxoma,
- Aneurysmal bone cyst,
- Chondrosarcoma
