Definition
Accumulation of dehydrated, stagnant fecal matter in the rectum.
Most often causes painful constipation and can even extend into the colon, being mistaken for an abdominal tumor.
Risk of digestive perforation if neglected +++
Risk factors:
- Diet
- Conditions that slow motility = Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, immobility
- Metabolic disorders (hypercalcemia, hypokalemia...)
- Medications
