Definition
Chronic inflammation leading to fibrosis and localized thickening of the tunica albuginea: "plaque"
Plaques may be: lateral or septal / calcified
Idiopathic fibrosis of the corpus cavernosum
Frequent history of trauma
Affects middle-aged men
Clinical features
Erectile disorders: abnormal penile curvature on erection / pain / induration
Ultrasound
Thickening of the tunica albuginea, more often on the dorsal aspect
+/- Doppler hyperemia reflecting inflammation
posterior attenuation if calcified
MRI
Fibrotic plaques: T2 hyposignal, thickening of the tunica albuginea
enhancement correlated with active inflammation
Management
Medical or surgical treatment depending on symptomatology, severity of penile curvature, and disease phase
Differential diagnosis
Penile tumor
