Definition

Most common spinal cord glial tumor in adults

Radiography

Scoliosis
Widening of the spinal canal

CT

Isodense or slightly hyperdense intracanalar vertebral mass, markedly enhancing after injection

MRI

Generally well-defined tumor
Generally iso- or hypointense on T1 relative to the spinal cord
Possible T1 hyperintensity due to recent hemorrhage
Hyper- or isointense on T2
Hypointense T2 rim = hemosiderin deposits at the tumor poles from prior bleeding
Spinal cord edema
Marked enhancement after gadolinium injection
Look for dural seeding on the post-contrast sequence

Differential diagnosis

Astrocytoma
