Definition
Panacinar emphysema involves all portions of the acinus and secondary pulmonary lobule more or less uniformly.
It predominates in the lower lobes and is a form of emphysema associated with alpha-1 antitrypsine deficiency.
CT
Presents as a generalized reduction in pulmonary parenchyma with decreased caliber of blood vessels in the affected areas.
It can coexist with and be intermixed with severe centrilobular emphysema.
