Definition
The subcardial diverticulum is the only true diverticulum of the Stomach; it is congenital.
Its frequency is low: 0.02% of autopsy series.
Its size is variable, classically 2 to 10 cm, and it is located posteriorly.
All parietal layers are not necessarily present.
Other diverticula are open duplications or pseudodiverticula (secondary mucosal recess developing at the expense of a pre-existing lesion).
Clinical features
Asymptomatic.
Radiography
Filling during upper GI contrast studies.
CT
- Continuity with the gastric wall
- Fluid content -/+ air-fluid level
- Variable shape and size depending on gastric filling
- Filling after contrast ingestion
Differential diagnosis
- Gastric tumor
- Gastric ulcer
- Adrenal tumor
