Definition

Also called "encysted dacryocystocele".

Complete obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct preventing lacrimal drainage, leading to tear stasis and dilation of the lacrimal sac.

Clinical features

Non-inflammatory swelling of the medial canthus.

CT

Dacryo-CT: dilated lacrimal sac filled with contrast material without passage into the nasolacrimal duct.

Always specify the position of the lacrimal sac relative to the ethmoidal cells (Agger Nasi cell?) and the thickness of the bony wall (difficulty of trephination).
