Definition

Cardiac liver: consequence of a suprahepatic block

Right heart failure: Constrictive pericarditis, cardiomyopathy... --> causes of right heart failure

Leads to hepatic venous stasis and sinusoidal congestion (slowing of hepatic perfusion and drainage): dilation of centrilobular veins and sinusoidal congestion without inflammation, alteration of centrilobular hepatocytes.
Progression to fibrosis and then to Cirrhosis.

Ultrasound

- hepatomegaly

- dilation of the hepatic veins

- loss of triphasic reflux in the hepatic veins (systolic reflux)

CT

- Reflux into the hepatic veins and the superior vena cava

- Dilation of the hepatic veins

- Congestive liver: hepatomegaly and mosaic perfusion pattern - diffuse periportal edema and periportal edema, sometimes marked gallbladder wall edema

- Chronicity: pseudotumoral hypertrophy of segment I (which receives the first branches of the right and left hepatic arteries: greater regenerative potential)
