Definition

30 to 40% of bronchopulmonary cancers

These squamous cell carcinomas present four variants:

  • papillary
  • clear cell
  • small cell
  • basaloid

CT

Most of these lesions have a central location related to the large bronchi.

The remaining lesions have a peripheral location related to subsegmental or smaller bronchi.

These tumors frequently show areas of necrosis and desmoplastic reactions.

The endobronchial component may cause an obstructive syndrome
with atelectasis and postobstructive pneumonia, possibly associated with bronchiectasis and/or bronchiolectasis and mucoid impactions.
