Definition
Osteochondrosis of the posterior ossification center of the calcaneus, thought to be favored by repeated microtrauma.
Clinical features
Posterior foot pain, at the level of the posterior calcaneal tuberosity, generally worsened by physical activity
Radiography
May be normal
Nonspecific abnormalities:
- Osteosclerosis of the posterior ossification center of the calcaneus
- Fragmentation of the ossification center
MRI
Reference imaging modality
- Edema of the posterior ossification center of the calcaneus
- +/- Fragmentation of the ossification center
- +/- Extension of edema to the calcaneal tuberosity
- +/- Retrocalcaneal bursitis
