Definition

Congenital malformation of the aortic root classically characterized by the presence of two leaflets instead of three. This presentation is actually rare.
Two forms exist:
- anterior-posterior leaflets (the most common)
- right-left leaflets.
In fact, by far the most common form of bicuspid valve corresponds to commissural fusion of two aortic leaflets (most often the right and left leaflets). These leaflets therefore do not open relative to one another. It is now well established that this clinical form carries the same evolutive risks as the classic two-leaflet bicuspid valve.
It may also be secondary to acquired fusion of two leaflets.
