Definition
Well-differentiated adenocarcinoma subtype arising from type II alveolar epithelial cells, itself presenting two subtypes: mucinous (80%) and non-mucinous (20%)
Clinical features
Risk factor: smoking.
Often asymptomatic.
Otherwise pleuritic pain, cough, hemoptysis, bronchorrhea, dyspnea, weight loss, hyperthermia
CT
LOCAL FORM - Ground-glass nodule - Isolated well-defined nodule that may show an air bronchogram, linear extensions toward the pleura, spiculated margins (73%), central necrosis, heterogeneous density. - Confined to a single lobe - Slow growth - No atelectasis - FDG PET/CT negative (55%) DIFFUSE FORM - Diffuse consolidation - Lobar form - Multinodular form
