Definition
Residual gadolinium accumulation in the brain in patients who have undergone numerous contrast-enhanced MRIs.
Proposed mechanism:
passage into the CSF via the choroid plexus
and release of a few atoms depending on the instability of the contrast agent (linear chelates ++)
At-risk populations: children and patients with chronic disease (MS, IBD)
Clinical features
Currently unknown
CT
No abnormality
MRI
Spontaneous T1 hyperintensities of:
- dentate nuclei of the cerebellum
- basal ganglia: globus pallidus of the lentiform nuclei
